Solutek is the oldest manufacturer of photographic chemicals
in continuous operation under the same ownership, that of Marlowe A.
Sigal.
As a young child he enjoyed photography. Growing older, this
passion turned it into a serious involvement in chemistry in college.

After a stint in the Navy and his first job as a chemist, Marlowe decided
to become an entrepreneur and learned about AA X-Ray Solution Service, a
small company in Roxbury, MA that was being sold. In 1961 he
established Solutek and continued the solution service business. In
the beginning he also saw a need to service machines for companies who did
not have the personnel to perform that work. However, technology
changed from many manual systems to automatic machine processing and new
types of developing machines. In the late 70's and 80's machines
became smaller, table-top size, which in turn required smaller darkrooms.
Solutek, with Marlowe at the helm, develops their own formulas and markets
them both nationally and internationally. Solutek also services and
produces their own products. Their uniqueness is in working
with companies to package and produce solutions to meet their distinctive
needs.
Solutions are manufactured for hospitals, dentist's and doctor's offices,
printing firms and industrial non-destructive uses (x-rays for welds,
airlines, electricity).
Marlowe Sigal is also a founding member of the Newmarket Business
Association. The purpose of this association was to
provide a unified voice for the highly industrial Newmarket area of
Boston. Today the NBA has some 200 members representing businesses,
organizations and various government functions.
